Lorde rocks Lollapalooza (Getty Images via Billboard)
Lorde will curate the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. Her cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) perfectly captured the mood of the film, so we can expect great things from the “Royals” hitmaker. On an awards-related note, The Hunger Games (2012) and Catching Fire picked up original song nods at the Golden Globes for “Safe and Sound” and “Atlas,” respectively; can Lorde get an Oscar bid (or two) for the franchise?
We’ll have to wait and see; a more immediate question is, when will we get our first taste of the Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack? Unless the release of the new music strays from the pattern(s) established by The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, I expect that we’ll hear new music within the next six weeks. More specifically, I imagine that the lead single – which I imagine will be (one of) Lorde’s contribution(s) – might drop on or around Sept. 8, or 11 weeks before the film lands. We first heard “Atlas” on Sept. 6, 2013 – 11 weeks before Catching Fire hit U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2013. Then again, “Safe and Sound” landed on Dec. 26, 2011 – almost 13 weeks before The Hunger Games made its stateside debut on Mar. 23, 2012 – so maybe we’ll get some new music before the end of the month.
And yes, I’ve updated the original song page accordingly.
