Sony Pictures Classics Lands Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead

Sony Pictures Classics has landed the worldwide distribution rights to Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead. The Miles Davis biopic – which Cheadle also leads, co-writes, and co-produces – will close the New York Film Festival on Oct. 11.

Deadline Hollywood notes that SPC has yet to set a release date for the film. However, the specialty distributor has only one other potential player in best actor – Tom Hiddleston for I Saw the Light, in select locations Nov. 27 – so we should see a release for Miles before the end of the year.

Cheadle should be a formidable best-actor candidate, as Miles is a passion project with a seemingly transformative performance. We can also expect Middle of Nowhere (2012) breakthrough Emayatzy Corinealdi and Ewan McGregor to be in the supporting-actress and supporting-actor convos, respectively. Cheadle, Steven Baigelman, Stephen J. Rivele, and Christopher Wilkinson’s script may land an original-screenplay nod. Best picture? Hmm…
