Role: Stacie Andree, who works to secure pension benefits from Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), her registered domestic partner who’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer

Festivals:

  • Toronto International Film Festival – World Premiere (Sept. 13, 2015)

U.S. Distributor: Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions
U.S. Release Date: Oct. 2, 2015 (limited)
U.S. Box Office: N/A

Why? A passion project for Page, Freeheld seems like Lionsgate’s biggest push here and in general.

Why not? The distributor (probably) plans to push Page as a supporting actress. Queer narratives with higher profiles, like Carol and The Danish Girl, may make a bigger splash. For a film that looks so good on paper, buzz is awfully quiet; the trailer did it no favors.
