Why? A juicy role in a thriller from fashion designer-turned-film director Tom Ford, whose first (and last) pic landed Colin Firth his first Oscar bid, could land five-time nominee Amy Adams in the ring once again. She also leads Denis Villeneuve’s The Day They Arrive, which could be a box-office hit.

Why not? Loving already looks like Focus Features’ top priority this awards season. Adams may compete for Arrive if the critics back it; her role in Nocturnal is borderline supporting, anyway.

Ranking: No. 3 as of Apr. 16, 2016
