Why? Elle Fanning’s been making a name for herself over the last few years, dabbling in art-house pics, Oscar bait, and blockbusters. If she impresses yet again, maybe she lands in the lead-actress lineup for this Nicolas Winding Refn thriller. She also leads John Cameron Mitchell’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties.

Why not? Refn’s Drive (2011) failed to impact Oscar the way we thought it would. Can something with even more potential to ostracize make it through awards season?
