U.S. Release Date: Dec. 21, 2016

Why? It may feel a bit early to dub Jennifer Lawrence the new Meryl Streep, but she landed in the top five last year for Joy – a film with tepid reception, one that wasn’t a contender in any other category. If Passengers soars, we could very well see her nominated again.

Why not? Joy was still Oscar bait on paper. Lawrence’s role here? Not so much. She needs a weak race and/or a strong film to land her fifth nod this year.

Ranking: No. 16 as of Apr. 19, 2016
