Oscar Present?
Role: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an important force in the African-American Civil Rights Movement

Awards: N/A
Nominations: N/A

Festivals: N/A

Why? Oyelowo’s on the verge of a mainstream breakthrough – and I’d imagine any actor playing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a major motion picture to be an instant contender. The up-and-comer’s appeared in a handful of awards hopefuls over the last few years, which should help. And for the sake of stating the obvious, Selma will get an awards push.

Why not? The loaded ensemble cast has me wondering, will any one actor stand out from the rest? The rush to get Selma out before the end of the year might do more harm than good.

Ranking: No. 3 as of Aug. 15, 2014
