Best Actor 2014: Jack O’Connell for Unbroken

Oscar Present?
Role: Louis “Louie” Zamperini, an Olympian and a WWII POW

Awards: N/A
Nominations: N/A
Festivals: N/A

Why? If Unbroken ticks all of the Oscar boxes – and it very well might – the film could easily be “the one”; O’Connell might come along for the ride, too. (I mean, if Jean Dujardin could ride the wave of love for The Artist (2011)…)

Why not? O’Connell will be one of the youngest best-actor nominees ever if he makes the cut; winning would make him the youngest best-actor winner ever. Other hot up-and-coming actors – Benedict Cumberbatch for The Imitation Game, David Oyelowo for Selma, Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything – have just as much heat if not more, and have a little more footing in the industry.

Ranking: No. 7 as of Aug. 2, 2014
