Oscar Present?
Role: Riggan Thomson, an actor – who’s most famous for his screen work as a superhero – trying to relaunch his career by starring in a Broadway play

Awards:

  • Boston Society of Film Critics (2014) – Best Actor
  • Nominations:

    • Los Angeles Film Critics Association (2014) – Best Actor (runner-up)
    • Independent Spirit Awards (2014) – Best Male Lead

    Festivals:

    • Venice Film Festival (2014) – Opening Film; World Premiere
    • New York Film Festival (2014) – Closing Film

Why? Keaton likely has fans in the motion-picture academy who want to see him pick up his first nomination. Some will surely get the “meta” nature of the project…

Why not? But others might not? Oscar voters might be less than keen on the film itself, anyway.

Ranking: No. 4 as of Aug. 11, 2014
