Oscar History: Five nominations
Nominated: Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Junebug (2005)
Nominated: Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Doubt (2008)
Nominated: Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Fighter (2010)
Nominated: Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Master (2012)
Nominated: Best Actress in a Leading Role for American Hustle (2013)

Oscar Present?
Role: Margaret Keane, a painter whose husband Walter (Christoph Waltz) steals credit for her work

Why? A five-time nominee who picked up her first leading nomination last year, it seems that Weinstein is giving Adams a major push (this, for example).

Why not? Julianne Moore has quite the player in Still Alice and, despite having fewer nominations, trumps Adams in terms of being due for Oscar recognition. Big Eyes itself isn’t the player it could have been. (Some contenders are bringing their A game in light of this perceived vulnerability.)

Ranking: No. 5 as of Nov. 25, 2014
