Oscar History: One win from four nominations
Nominated: Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Madness of King George (1994)
Nominated: Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Gosford Park (2001)
Won: Best Actress in a Leading Role for The Queen (2006)
Nominated: Best Actress in a Leading Role for The Last Station (2009)
Role: Madame Mallory, the proprietess of a French restaurant who clashes with the Kadam family, who’ve opened up a nearby restaurant of their own.
Why? Mirren’s an Oscar favorite at this point – she almost got a nomination for Hitchcock (2012) of all films – which suggests that she might get in for a feel-good film like The Hundred-Foot Journey.
Why not? But The Hundred-Foot Journey hardly cooked up strong box office; lukewarm reviews don’t help the cause for year-end awards, either. Expect Disney to throw more attention behind Into the Woods.
Ranking: No. 23 as of Sept. 12, 2014
