Oscar Present?
Role: Donna Stern, a comedienne who confronts realities of independent womanhood upon an unplanned pregnancy (via IMDb)

Nominations:

Festivals:

  • Sundance Film Festival (2014) – World Premiere
  • SXSW (2014)

Why? Slate became a critical darling with this Sundance hit. She could be a threat for some critics awards; some think she can sneak into the Golden Globes lineup like Greta Gerwig did with Frances Ha last year.

Why not? Obvious Child is still a low-profile contender, and distributor A24 seems to be focusing on A Most Violent Year this season.

Ranking: No. 12 as of Nov. 25, 2014
