Role: Madame Bovary, a “disgruntled provincial wife yearning to breathe free” (via TIFF)
- Telluride Film Festival (2014) – World Premiere
- Toronto International Film Festival (2014) – Canadian Premiere
Why? Wasikowska has been on the verge of a breakthrough for quite some time. Between The Kids Are All Right (2010), Albert Nobbs (2011), Jane Eyre (2011), Oscar voters at least recognize her face at this point. She also leads Tracks and features in Maps to the Stars.
Why not? Response was more enthusiastic in some circles than it was in others. If nothing else, Madame Bovary might boost a potential campaign for Wasikowska’s performance in Tracks.
Ranking: Unranked as of Sept. 12, 2014
