Role: Robyn Davidson, “[a] young woman [who] goes on a 1,700 mile trek across the deserts of West Australia with her four camels and faithful dog” (via IMDb)
- Venice Film Festival (2013) – World Premiere
- Telluride Film Festival (2013)
- Toronto International Film Festival (2013)
- BFI London Film Festival (2013)
Why? Wasikowska has been on the verge of an awards breakthrough for quite some time; between The Kids Are All Right (2010), Albert Nobbs (2011), and Jane Eyre (2011), Oscar voters at least recognize her face at this point. There are rumblings of an Oscar campaign for her performance. Wasikowska also leads Madame Bovary and features in Maps to the Stars.
Why not? Tracks seems to be a lower-tier title on Weinstein’s slate. The inevitable comparisons to the buzzier Wild will only hurt.
Ranking: No. 14 as of Sept. 12, 2014
