Role: Lucy, a young woman whose ability to access her brain has expanded due to a drug-related accident
Why? Johansson’s had something of a revival over the last several years – between her performance(s) as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers franchise and her work in Under the Skin and Chef earlier this year. Lucy has crossed the $100 million mark in the States. Some critics groups might award her for her body of work – Lucy, Chef, Under the Skin, and maybe even Captain America: The Winter Solider. Despite the nature of the film, Johansson gets a couple of “Oscar clip!” moments. She’ll get a nomination at some point, right?
Why not? Lucy is still a sci-fi actioner – not the favorite genre of Oscar voters; it’s a divisive film, too.
Ranking: Unranked as of Sept. 12, 2014
