Why? As one of the year’s biggest hits and, consequently, one of the year’s biggest soundtrack hits, “Earned It” kickstarted a massive year for The Weeknd; the artist’s mainstream breakthrough (his Beauty Behind the Madness and “Can’t Feel My Face” topped Billboard’s albums and singles charts, respectively) should keep him in the conversation, right? Fifty Shades became something everyone at least knows about…

Why not? but for all the wrong reasons. The song’s placement in the film is… odd, to say the least. Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” may prove to be formidable internal competition. (In a perfect world, Sia’s “Salted Wound” would gain some traction, too.)

Ranking: No. 8 (as of Sept. 9, 2015)
