Why? The perfect combo of songwriting, production, and vocals, “Love Me Like You Do” recalls love ballads of yesteryear but still fits into a contemporary framework. Goulding may remain a part of the conversation if her upcoming music lands on the charts.

Why not? Fifty Shades seemingly incorporates “Love” into its framework with little attention paid to how well it actually fits. The Weeknd’s “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)” provides internal competition. (We should be talking about Sia’s “Salted Wound,” too.) The film itself is something of a cultural laughingstock, which hardly helps.

Ranking: No. 7 (as of Sept. 9, 2015)
